- Social difficulties – People with autism may shun interaction with others and seem to prefer to be alone "in their own world". Equally, they may resist any form of physical affection.
- Problems with communication – A child who has autism may find it difficult to learn to speak, and in some cases never achieve this. Commonly, people with autism find it difficult to understand others and particularly to express themselves in what we would regard as a "normal way".
- Repetitive behaviour – Children with autism may want to play the same game over and over again, or to watch the same DVD many times. They can also exhibit repetitive behaviours such as head banging or rocking.
- Hair Test – to check the body’s levels of heavy metals.
- Comprehensive Stool Analysis Test – to check for fungi whose toxins may enter and affect the brain.
- Genetic Tests – for e.g. to check for the presence of the APOE4 gene, which affects the body’s ability to eliminate heavy metals.
- Removal of excess mercury using chelating agents such as DMPS (the sodium salt of 2,3-dimercapto-1-propane sulfonic acid).
- Subcutaneous injections of methylcobalamin, the neurologically active form of Vitamin B12 which can cross the blood brain barrier.
